Food Safety & Hygiene Officer – Java House
Job Purpose
To drive continual improvement in product quality, food safety, and hygiene standards across branch operations by implementing food safety systems, conducting audits and microbiological testing, monitoring compliance, and training food handlers.
Roles & Responsibilities

Food Safety & Hygiene Implementation: Oversee and implement effective food safety and hygiene measures to ensure all food preparation processes comply with safety standards and regulatory requirements.

Auditing & Compliance Monitoring: Execute 100% of internal and external audit schedules, monitor compliance with food safety protocols, and drive timely corrective and preventive action (CAPA) tracking and closure.

Microbiological Testing & Quality Control: Implement sampling and micro-testing schedules for food, water, and environmental swabs; manage corrective actions for out-of-specification results; and ensure external calibration of probe thermometers.

Training & Capacity Building: Plan and execute 100% of food safety training schedules to ensure all food handlers understand and fulfill their hygiene responsibilities.

Customer Feedback & Continuous Improvement: Analyze quality trends, track and resolve customer complaints against annual reduction targets, and identify operational gaps to optimize process performance.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Food Science or a related discipline from a recognized institution.

Valid driver’s license preferred (residency in Mombasa required).
Skills, Experience & Competences

Minimum of 2 years of working experience in a Quality Assurance (QA) or Food Safety role within a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment.

Strong working knowledge and practical experience with HACCP and ISO 22000 food safety management systems.

Strong computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and advanced PowerPoint).

Excellent problem-solving, decision-making under pressure, organizational, and cross-functional teamwork skills.
